Matt Bell

Matt Bell is Professor of English at Bridgewater State University, where he teaches courses in American literature, film, and LGBTQ Studies. Born and raised near Los Angeles, in 1993 he graduated from UC Riverside and came to Massachusetts to pursue his M.A. and Ph.D. at Tufts University. He has been a Boston resident since 1995. His research centers on the transformative effects of gay liberation. He has published essays on The Manchurian Candidate, James Baldwin’s novel Another Country,and the life of the playwright Mart Crowley, and he also edited the collection The Boys in the Band: Flashpoints of Cinema, History, and Queer Politics (Wayne State University Press, 2016). A lifetime theater lover, he first attended a SpeakEasy production when the company staged Merrily We Roll Along in 1997. He and his husband have been avid subscribers since 2006. Their pride and joy is a Plott Hound mix named Reposado.
