Meet the Cast: Songs for a New World

RASHED AL NUAIMI* is an Emirati actor, singer, music composer, and songwriter. He graduated from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee with an MFA in Musical Theater in 2020. Rashed has been seen in a variety of roles at theatres throughout the Boston-area, and was nominated for a 2020 Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Musical Performance by an Actor for his portrayal of Bill Sikes in the New Rep production of Oliver!  Rashed also was cast as the lead voice in the animated feature film Catsaway set to be released in 2022. (he/him)

LAURA MARIE DUNCAN* is thrilled to return to SpeakEasy Stage, having previously appeared in Fun Home (Helen, IRNE Award Nominee). She is a Massachusetts native and a proud graduate of The Boston Conservatory. Broadway credits include the original companies of The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and South Pacific at Lincoln Center, as well as the final year of Billy Elliot. Laura Marie also played Christine in the first national tour of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Off-Broadway credits include Cupid and Psyche, La Terrasse (MTC); An Experiment with an Air Pump (MTC); House and Garden (MTC), and The Body Beautiful (York Theatre). TV/Film: Law and Order; Law and Order: SVU; Ed; Guiding Light. Things coming full circle as they do, Laura Marie is now enjoying the next phase of her career as an Associate Professor at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. JENNIFER ELLIS* returns to SpeakEasy having previously appeared in The Bridges of Madison County (Francesca Johnson), Nine (Claudia Nardi), Shakespeare in Love (Viola De Lesseps), and Far from Heaven (Cathy Whitaker).  Other favorite credits include: Merrily We Roll Along (Huntington Theatre Company); Shear Madness (Off-Broadway and Boston); and My Fair Lady (Lyric Stage Company). Jen received an Elliot Norton Award for her work in Wonderful Town (Reagle Music Theatre) and My Fair Lady (Lyric Stage), and is a four-time IRNE Award winner, most recently for work in Shakespeare in Love. DWAYNE P. MITCHELL* currently serves as SpeakEasy’s Artistic Fellow, and appeared in the company’s production of Choir Boy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music – Vocal Performance from the Historically Black institution Fisk University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Credits include Fences (Umbrella Stage); Ragtime and Little Women – The Broadway Musical (Wheelock Family Theatre); and La Cage Aux Folles (Reagle Music Theatre). In addition, Dwayne has performed with India Arie and Mariah Carey, and is a vocalist on the Grammy Award-winning album: Celebrating Fisk (The 150th Anniversary Album). On- and off-stage, Dwayne continues to use his platform to advocate for diversity, inclusion, and opportunity for Black and other artists of color in the performing arts. (he/him)

DAVRON S. MONROE* most recently appeared at SpeakEasy as Willie in The View Upstairs. Other musical theatre credits include: Breath & Imagination (for which he received the 2019 Elliot Norton Award); The Wiz; Camelot; Company; My Fair Lady; City of Angels; Sweeney Todd; One Man, Two Guvnors; The Mikado; Avenue Q; and Ain’t Misbehavin’ (Lyric Stage); The Little Mermaid, Ragtime (Company Theatre); Man of La Mancha (New Rep); Caroline, or Change; The Wild Party; Godspell (Moonbox Productions); Hairspray (Reagle Music Theatre);DreamgirlsJesus Christ SuperstarChildren of EdenSongs for a New World (premiere, Key West Symphony, Broadway Across America), Smokey Joe’s Café.  Davron has also appeared with Boston Landmarks Orchestra (Lost in the Stars – a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the “I Have a Dream” speech, and The Chariot Jubilee), Brevard Music Center, Disney Entertainment’s Voices of Liberty, South Florida Symphony, Houston Ebony Opera Guild, the New England Spiritual Ensemble, and other organizations throughout the greater Boston area. Davron was also the first recipient of the Bob Jolly Award for up-and-coming local actors, and a finalist in the Orlando Opera’s Heinz Rehfuss Singing Actor Awards. (he/him)

MIKAYLA MYERS is thrilled to be making her SpeakEasy debut! She is currently studying Musical Theater at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where she plans to graduate in 2022. Mikayla will also be appearing in Silhouette Stages’s virtual production of Brooklyn the Musical this June. REBEKAH RAE ROBLES is thrilled to be making her SpeakEasy debut in their 30th season. A recent early graduate of the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, she has appeard as a featured performer in Fugitive Songs (dir. Mike Mosallamand BoCo Sings Sondheim (dir. Paul Daigneault). ALEXANDER TAN is ecstatic to be making their SpeakEasy debut in Songs for a New World. A Singaporean native, Alexander is a recent graduate from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. Regionally, they have appeared at the Peregrine Theatre Ensemble and the Weston Playhouse. When not performing, Alexander enjoys spending time with people they love, engulfing sushi, and hydrating. Alexander would like to thank their many teachers that have allowed them to grow into the person and artist they are today. (he/they)

VICTOR CARRILLO TRACEY is so excited to make his SpeakEasy debut with this amazing cast! Victor is currently a senior at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he is pursuing his BFA in Musical Theater. Past regional credits include Spring Awakening (Melchior), West Side Story (Riff),   Hairspray (Link), Peter Pan (Peter), and Jesus Christ Superstar (Peter).
